What can I flush down my toilet?

Our sewers and your drains are only designed to carry the three Ps - paperpoo and pee.

To avoid blockages you should only flush these down the toilet.

Around 75% of blockages are caused by disposable items and costs British householders millions of pounds annually in plumbing bills.

You can help to avoid blockages by putting these items in the bin:

  • make-up, cleaning and baby wipes (even if they say ‘flushable’)
  • nappies
  • cotton buds
  • plasters and bandages
  • dental floss
  • tampons and applicators (both plastic and cardboard applicators)
  • condoms
  • sanitary towels and incontinence pads
  • razor blades
